CHAPTER 01 / WEBFRONT

Start with C++

Prepare your tools and run the simulation.

A core that stays independent

Our project is Conway’s Game of Life: a 32 × 32 grid follows the B3/S23 rules. A cell is born with three neighbours and survives with two or three. The edges wrap round. Life.hpp computes the next generation and returns a std::bitset<1024>. The simulation is independent of its interface.

Prepare the tools

You need Git, CMake 3.31 or later and a C++23 compiler. Initial configuration downloads dependencies, so you need an Internet connection. These commands build the examples without requesting CEF.

SOURCE
git clone https://github.com/ambroise-leclerc/WebFront.git
cd WebFront
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
cmake --build .

Run the console version

From build, run examples/WebFrontLifeConsole. With Visual Studio, use examples\Debug\WebFrontLifeConsole.exe. You already have a standalone programme: WebFront adds an interface to this computation. For your own CMake project, link WebFront::WebFront as follows.

SOURCE
add_subdirectory(path/to/WebFront)
add_executable(MyApp main.cpp)
target_link_libraries(MyApp PRIVATE WebFront::WebFront)

Question

Does the simulation need to depend on React?
